2. Core principle: your data stays on your device

Sparta Island is deliberately designed as a local app. All data you enter — training sessions, personal records, body and health data (weight, waist circumference, height), nutrition diary, training plans — is stored exclusively on your device (SQLite database). This applies in particular to body and health data: it is never transmitted to the provider or any third party.

There is no registration and no user account.
No data is transmitted to the provider.
The app contains no tracking, no analytics services, and no crash reporting.
The app works fully offline.

3. The single exception: nutrition lookup via Open Food Facts

When you actively use the barcode scanner in the nutrition feature, the app fetches nutrition facts for the scanned product from the Open Food Facts database (world.openfoodfacts.org).

Data transmitted: the scanned barcode, your device’s IP address (a technical necessity of any internet request), and an app identifier (user agent).
When: only at the moment you scan a barcode — never in the background.
Purpose: retrieving nutrition facts (calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat) for the scanned product.
Recipient: Open Food Facts, a non-profit organization based in France (EU). Open Food Facts privacy information: https://world.openfoodfacts.org/privacy
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR — the transmission is necessary to provide the feature you requested (nutrition lookup).

The retrieved nutrition facts are then stored locally on your device. If you do not use the barcode scanner, no data is transmitted at all.

4. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and objection (Art. 21), as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).

Since all app data resides exclusively on your device and the provider stores no personal data about you, you exercise control over your data directly: entries you delete in the app are hidden from all views and statistics; deleting the app irrevocably removes all data.

5. This website

This website is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc., based in the USA. The website is static, sets no cookies, and contains no tracking. When you visit, GitHub as the hosting provider processes technically necessary connection data (in particular your IP address) in server logs.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is the secure and stable operation of this website.
Third-country transfer: Since GitHub, Inc. is based in the USA, data is transferred to a third country. According to its own statements, GitHub is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which is covered by an adequacy decision of the European Commission (Art. 45 GDPR).

6. Storage period

All data entered in the app remains on your device until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app — the provider itself stores no personal data and therefore cannot delete any. The storage period of the technical data arising at Open Food Facts and GitHub (IP address in server logs) is governed by those providers’ policies (see their privacy notices linked above).

7. No automated decision-making

No automated decision-making, including profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR, takes place.
